Velvet Coupe Wine Bar — Tega Cay, SC
Girls night? Date night? This one is it. We were enamored by the relaxed, cozy ambiance, an incredible selection of wines, and the most delicious options for small plates.
Tucked into Tega Cay, South Carolina, Velvet Coupe has the kind of low-lit, velvet-and-brass warmth that makes you want to settle in for the whole evening. It's the sort of spot where a "quick glass" turns into a full night out that feels like a night in. Good wine, good bites, and a room that hums with easy conversation.
The Wine List
The featured list rotates, so no two visits feel quite the same, and the range is genuinely impressive for a small city wine bar. Sparkling drinkers can start with a glass of Prosecco or splurge on Veuve Clicquot's Brut Yellow Label. The whites move from bright, zippy Sauvignon Blanc and Grüner Veltliner to rounder, richer Chardonnay. Rosé and orange wine lovers will be overjoyed to find L'Escale Orange Sauvignon Blanc.
Reds are where the list really stretches its legs… from lighter Willamette Valley Pinot Noir all the way up to bold, structured bottles like Saldo Zinfandel and Mollydooker's Velvet Glove Shiraz. There's a whole dedicated Cabernet Sauvignon section too, with everything from approachable Paso Robles bottlings to splurge-worthy Napa Valley names like Caymus and Stag's Leap. A short but well-curated beer list rounds things out, alongside a couple of easy wine cocktails like a Mimosa or Bellini.
The Food
The kitchen leans chef-driven and shareable, built for pairing with whatever's in your glass. Small plates include a sushi-grade tuna tartare salad, a charred Caesar topped with brown butter lemon shrimp, and a simple, elegant burrata caprese. Pasta shows up two ways - a basil pesto spaghetti finished with burrata and blistered tomatoes, and classic meatballs in marinara.
Flatbreads are a highlight, especially the prosciutto version with fig jam and creamy burrata. And for the table-sharing crowd, the charcuterie and cheese boards are stacked with thoughtful selections - aged cheddar, Humboldt Fog, speck, truffle mortadella - served with housemade fruit confit and crostini. Weekends bring a rotating special, most recently a slow-simmered spaghetti and meatballs.
Save room for the double chocolate mousse or the cheesecake with cherry confit to close things out.
