Scoop n’ Swirl: A Local Favorite for Homemade Ice Cream in Tega Cay

If you’ve lived in Tega Cay for a while, you probably already know about Scoop n’ Swirl. It’s been a part of this community in one form or another since 2002, originally opened as Maggie Moo’s by longtime locals, Dilip and Binta Shah. For years, they served up homemade ice cream and helped create a place where families could hang out, celebrate, and enjoy something sweet.

In late 2024, the shop changed ownership, but not in a way that’s lost what made it special. The new owners have been clear - they’re not here to erase anything. Instead, they’re focused on keeping the quality the same while slowly updating the space and adding a few fresh ideas. It still feels like the place many of us grew up visiting, just with a little more color and creativity.

In-House Ice Cream

The ice cream is made in-house and served in over 20 flavors. Some are classics like Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. Others have a little more flair: Cinnamon, Red Velvet, Cake Batter, Mint, Cheesecake, Cotton Candy. If you’ve got kids with strong opinions, they’ll definitely find something they love . If you’re more of a “just give me Sweet Cream in a waffle cone” person, you’re good too.

Swirl Shakes & Combos

The shakes are a bit of a hidden gem. You can either create your own from any flavor or pick from the “Swirl Shake” menu — these are basically mashups of their flavors with toppings and mix-ins. A few that stand out:

  • Cinnamon Swirl (Cinnamon ice cream, caramel, fudge)

  • Cookies N’ Cream (Sweet cream base with Oreos)

  • Batter N’ Dough (Cake Batter + Cookie Dough)

They’re rich, super customizable, and big enough to share if you're into that kind of thing.

Cakes & Seasonal Treats

Scoop n’ Swirl also makes custom ice cream cakes for just about every holiday. You’ll start to see them pop up around Valentine’s Day, the Fourth of July, Halloween, and Christmas. The designs change every season, and if you're looking for a non-grocery store option for birthdays, this is a good local alternative.

Something New, Something Familiar

What’s nice is that even with the new ownership, the shop still feels like a Tega Cay original. The menu updates, the occasional new flavor, the brighter look! It’s clear they’re trying to meet people where they are now without losing the local connection that built the place in the first place.

If you haven’t been in a while, it’s worth stopping by. And if you’re someone who comes frequently with kids in tow, you’ll be glad to know it’s still very much the same scoop shop you remember.

Extras You Might Not Know About

  • Fundraisers: Scoop n’ Swirl partners with local schools, churches, and sports teams. It’s an easy way to raise money while giving people a reason to grab a cone.

  • Catering: They’ll do sundae bars, pre-packed servings, or scooped ice cream at your event — good for birthday parties, office appreciation days, or small-town festivals.

Final Thought
Scoop n’ Swirl isn’t trying to be trendy. It’s just a local spot doing what it’s done well for over 20 years.. serving good ice cream and giving families a place to come together. Cheers!
